Definition of barite

The crystals of barite are large, tubular, and the crystals can sometimes form rosette-shaped or bifurcated crystals together, which are called crested barite. Pure barite is colorless and transparent, generally white or light yellow, with vitreous luster. Moreover, barite can be used as a white pigment (commonly known as lithopone), and can also be used as a filler in chemicals, papermaking, and textiles. In glass production, it can act as a flux and increase the brightness of glass. But it is mainly used as a weighting agent in the drilling industry and in the extraction of barium. Barite has a large specific gravity (4.3-4.7), low hardness (3-3.5), stable chemical properties, insoluble in water and acid, and barite powder is mainly used in petroleum, chemical, paint, filler and other industrial sectors, of which 80%— 90% is used as mud weighting agent in oil drilling.

Barite processing technology

1. Crushing process

Barite is brittle and fragile, so in the crushing process, we recommend using a jaw crusher to avoid using a counterattack hammer crusher to crush barite and produce a large amount of fine ore. The raw ore can get better crushing effect after passing through a jaw crusher.

2. Screening process

The thickness of the crushed barite ore is very uneven, and the beneficiation equipment generally has its own required selection particle size and selection size range. Therefore, the crushed barite ore can be screened to optimize the next separation. The process is that the sorting efficiency and sorting index of the sorting equipment are greatly increased.

3. Sorting process

Barite is brittle and fragile, so in the crushing process, we recommend using a jaw crusher to avoid using a counterattack hammer crusher to crush barite and produce a large amount of fine ore. The raw ore can get better crushing effect after passing through a jaw crusher.

4. Dehydration process

The concentrates and tailings discharged after being sorted by the spiral classifier contain a large amount of water. Generally, dehydration measures are required to reduce the water content of the concentrates, and on the other hand, the excess water can also be removed to return to the circulation pool. , so that the quantity consumption of the circulating water system is reduced.

Barite application fields

Barite is a very important non-metallic mineral raw material with a wide range of industrial uses.

1. Drilling mud aggravator: When drilling some oil wells and air wells, the proportion of drilling mud and clay is about 2.5, and the proportion of water is 1, so the mud proportion is low. Sometimes the weight of the mud cannot be balanced with underground oil and gas pressure, which causes a blowout accident. In the case of high underground pressure, it is necessary to increase the proportion of mud. Adding to the mud to the mud is an effective measure to increase the proportion of mud.

2. Zinc barium white pigment: Zinc barium white is a commonly used high-quality white pigment, which can be used as a raw material for paint and painting pigments.

3. Various pillar compounds: Taking stones as raw materials can make chemical raw materials such as oxidation, carbonate, chlorine chloride, nitric acid crickets, sedimentary sulfuric acid, and hydroxide.

4. Barite for filler industry: In the paint industry, barite powder filler can increase the thickness, strength and durability of the paint film. Zinc barium white pigment is also used to make white paint, which has more advantages than lead white and magnesium white in indoor use. Barite for paint industry requires sufficient fineness and high whiteness. Paper industry, rubber and plastic industries also use barite as filler, which can improve the hardness, wear resistance and aging resistance of rubber and plastics.

5. Mineralizer for cement industry: Barite provides a beneficial way to produce low-calcium, energy-saving, early-strength and high-strength cement.

6. Radiation-proof cement, mortar and concrete: Barite is used to absorb X-rays, and barite is used to make barium cement.
